This is Halloween.

Another day of the year for me to dress up. I love it!

This year I didn’t have an actual “costume” I just threw a bunch of stuff together to create a look. Sort of a hippie, gypsy, gothic tribes woman sort of deal. I nicknamed this look: Diamond Sinclair.

A few of my favorite Halloween moments from this year…

Top photo: My dear friend Lisa is now… a ZOMBIE!!!

Middle photo: Willow giving us the best La Llorona.

Bottom photo: Andrea monitoring the halls and writing people up. (The wig was not an original part of her costume, but was added later due to the pure hilarity of it.)

I hope your Halloween was filled with fantastic costuming, candy and memories!

Decompress in Style!

Ahhhh yes, a day in the park… not just any day in the park, but the 10th annual Burning Man, Los Angeles Decompression festival at LA Historical Park.

This particular event can be described as a small taste of Burning Man culture in the heart of Los Angeles. You’ll find large scale art installations, interactive theme camps, fire dancers, aerialists, art cars, happy people and my favorite… outrageous fashion. Burners (people who attend the Burning Man festival) love to exercise their radical self expression with fashion, one of the reasons I LOVE the Burning Man festival.

A few weeks ago my mom came over and had sewn me three items. The first and second items didn’t excite me too much, however she then pulled out a sparkly, silver, disco ball wad of cloth and wowed me!
Here’s the thing about my mom and me… We are almost complete opposites. I am very out-going, social, adventurous, playful and eccentric where as my mother has always been a homebody, and on the quieter side.  If we were an ice cream flavor… she would be vanilla and I would be cotton-candy-bubble-gum-birthday-cake-marshmellow-explosion.

So she shows up at my apartment with this awesome sparkly, wearable disco ball and I LOVE IT! My mom makes several attempts through out the year to get my “fashion tastes” and doesn’t always hit the nail on the head although I appreciate her efforts. So here we are, and she has sewn me this awesome top and is thrilled that I love it so of course I had to wear it to the Decompression festival.

Isn’t it fabulous?

The top runs a little big, so I gathered it in the back and safety pinned it to fit to my figure a little better. I thought it actually looked cuter with the way the cloth folded in the back.

My hat was decorated by me with a hundred or so Swarovski crystals glued to the top in the shape of the “Man” (the Burning Man icon), also a few more crystals glued to the roses on the hat. The band across my forehead I made that morning. Just glued a bunch of hematite Swarovski crystals to a thin ribbon and tied it on. The ring on my finger is so futurisitc looking and can actually be worn two different ways. Whether the point goes forward or backward, it’s an awesome ring. I found it a jewelry boutique in downtown LA.

As you can see, this particular day in the park brings out the most fabulous of fashions and you really get to see so much creativity. The last guy was great, he made his hat and his friend made him his suit… I thought he matched me quit well.

All in all the day was fantastic and everyone LOVED my top, and frankly the best part was saying, “My mom made it.”

The name is Cherry.

What is more fun than dressing up in an outlandish ensemble? Dressing in an outlandish ensemble with a character to match the outfit!

At last week’s Burning Man festival I went about my day with a character, complete with an English accent. With the help of my fellow camp mates, we decided on the name Cherry Poppins to go along with the red hair and sassy attitude.

I was so thrilled to finally have enough energy and fuel to go into the day. The whole week I had spent the days sleeping around camp wherever I could. This particular Burn was really hard on my body and energy levels. The first few days were spent acclimating to the harsh desert conditions and I wasn’t feeling well enough to spend a lot of energy getting all jazzed up during the days. By Thursday morning I was feeling well and ready to go out into the city as Cherry Poppins.

To top off the outfit I wore my incredible Burning Man medallion that I received as a gift at the 2011 Burn. This piece is absolutely stunning and is the greatest physical gift I’ve been given in my 4 years of participating in the festival. The pendant is double sided and on the other side, the Man stands in the center of the globe. A fantastic piece of jewelry indeed, and is adored by many. I feel so lucky to have been in the right place, at the right time… and had the right outfit on!!! (I was given this piece because the man loved my outfit.)

Probably one of my most favorite outfits of the week, and it was appreciated by many. If only I could dress this way regularly in the default world…

Pink, Re-Styled.

A new day calls for a new outfit! I wanted to wear the same colors from the outfit that I wore to the Pink Party (which you can see HERE).  The events were related, so  I wanted to utilize the same colors and skirt but in a whole new way. What I love about the skirt is the super flowy material, and it is short in the front, and long in the back (very popular right now!) For the previous outfit, I wore the skirt as it should be worn, but for this outfit, I simply pulled the skirt up over my chest, and wore it as a strapless shirt/dress. By putting a belt on over it, it cinched it enough to flatter my shape. Obviously it was very short in the front, so I put on a simple short black mini skirt, and added some wicked stockings to create a whole new look out of the same basic pieces.

Remember, this skirt is from Ross and was 10 bucks! The belt I got from TJ Maxx for 5.99 and the stockings are from Wet Seal for another 8 bucks. I got the stockings a few years and they are gorgeous! I haven’t been able to find them again so I handle these with great care so I don’t rip them up.

Now my favorite part, the accessories!

This picture looks better when you click on it, so you can see detail.

Okay so that amazing ring that looks like spikes coming out of my finger… yes, that ring is AWESOME! I found it online for 4 dollars!!! It’s one of my coolest rings, and it was soooo inexpensive! The spiked bracelet is from Forever 21 and the slave bracelet is from the Icing. My amazing chain purse I found at Ross (where I find most ALL of my amazing articles of fashion!) and it was a mere 20 bucks. The necklace I found recently at an accessory store in downtown LA and it was also 20 bucks.

My make-up was kept simple, although I did hand glue (eyelash glue!) 15 pink Swarovski crystals around my eyebrows and added a little glitter to my eyeliner. As for my hair, I inserted pink, black and white flowers and a black feather fascinator.

Again, my ensemble was an absolute hit at the event (LB Pride 2012). If it wasn’t my hair, it was my shoes people were in astonishment with. Many people asked to take a photo with me (including profesh photogs), which of course, was awesome. I remember times in the past where I attended different kinds of public events where there would be some gorgeous female all decked out in some elaborate fashion and I always wanted to be her… and after this day… I think I can say I made it. If you want to be “her” you can’t half ass it. You go big or you go home, and I’ve learned this over the years. And it always comes down to details. Clothes can only get you so far… but the details… those are what seal the deal.
