Simple, easy, style.

simplestyle2

This look was as easy as taking two basic pieces; a black tank top and leggings, and then adding in color with accessories. I like to have better quality basics, and then statement pieces are fun to find second hand by thrifting, checking out consignment stores and one of my favorite shopping destinations Crossroads Trading Company.simplestyle

Wardrobe Favorites

You may have seen this jacket in other posts, as it happens to be my favorite piece in my wardrobe two years running now. It truly is the perfect L.A. jacket. Great construction, beautiful leather & suede, and a perfect fit. I want  one in every color of the rainbow. Except orange… I definitely do not want one in orange. 😉

MyTribeLeatherJacketTMThe jeans are my first pair of Joe’s and I am pleasantly surprised. They have a great fit, along with the perfect length (hard to find when you’re a Shorty McShort Short) and again, I’ve worn them frequently and they hold there shape very well. No saggy knees, no stretched out booty.

And ahhhh those beautiful stiletto heels. Metallic in color and a unique cage style design. They are made by L.A.M.B., Gwen Stefani’s fashion line. I scored these beauties at Nordstrom Rack for less than half the original price. Yesssss!

Status Update 2015

When I look back at 2014, I realized I had some fabulous ensembles I threw together. I also had some awesome photographers capture my photo. Although these photos weren’t taken for the purposes of posting them to my blog, I wanted to post some of my favorite outfits, looks and photos from my 2014.

I don’t just “get dressed…” I create ART!

Punk Grunge Glamour

When I was in high school, I was soooooo punk rock. Also known as “a poser.” LOL. That’s just the way it goes. Along with going to local punk shows, being rebellious, wearing plaid and Doc Martens, came calling everyone else a poser. It’s quite funny actually.

Really I just enjoyed some classic & more modern punk music, and going to shows to let out some energy in a mosh-pit…  I very much enjoyed the punk style of plaids, leather, spikes, chains, patches, etc. I expressed myself through punk style during my last few years of school and then let it fade away. However I still love the style and I still love those same punk bands I loved years ago. Although I never got into the politics of the punk scene, it didn’t stop me from enjoying bands like the Ramones, Sex Pistols, the Buzzcocks, Dead Kennedys, Vice Squad, the Adicts, Rancid, Operation Ivy, and the Dropkick Murphys.

I was recently selling some clothes at Wasteland when I spotted what appeared to be a sweet ass vintage band t-shirt. I dropped everything I was doing to take a peek at this shirt that had just hit the sales floor…… A vintage Dead Kennedy’s t-shirt, AND it smelled good. SCORE! Not only do I adore the dark, eerie and rambunctious sound of the Dead Kennedy’s, but here I found a perfectly softened, old school vintage t-shirt with their political propaganda inked all over it.

Completing my grungy punk style is the same leather bondage belt I rocked about a decade ago, a subtle plaid print on my jeans and of course a flannel knotted around the waist. As you all know, I almost always have to add in some glamour to whatever style I’m rockin, so in comes the teased hair, the shiny accessories and my fringed bag. The diamond shaped bangle is by Vinca, an awesome jewelry company based here in the USA. It is such a cool bracelet, made of laser cut wood!

A Dash of Vinca!

All black everything… it’s a great look. It really never fails. Perhaps I should be living in New York? Pfffft, no way, I prefer my California sunshine. <3

This particular outfit incorporates some goth, and my favorite comic book character of all time: Catwoman. I don’t know, I just feel a little Catwoman-ish in this ensemble. I think its probably those heeled boots I have on… which I found at Ross for $20 btw!!! Yessssss.

But seriously, the white hair, the red lips and nails and the silver accents just look so fierce altogether. How bout those accessories huh? You’ve seen a lot of these pieces in other posts, however my unique crow necklace is totes new to this blog. The necklace is from Vinca jewelry and it’s all made here in the USA (yesss!) I picked up a couple of fabulous pieces from Vinca but the crows are my absolute favorite.

What a unique piece right? Crows…? A lil’ Alfred Hitchcock piece perhaps? I ran over a crow once. It was the worst. I felt its skull pop under my tire. I cried for at least 8 minutes. It was terrible. But forgive me, this isn’t a roadkill blog. ; )

So yeah, I LOVE the absurdity of those shiny black crows gliding over my collarbones having people ponder the what the piece is about. The necklace has got that unique edge that I just love… Thanks for the creativity Vinca!

Also thanks goes out to my photographer of the day, Cooper Griggs. He was kind enough to snap these shots and make them beautiful for me! Thanks Coop!

Black and White, an Outfit for the Night.

The entire outfit was assembled around the headpiece, which I can proudly say I MADE!! Sparkly, sharp and extremely beautiful; it’s an accessory that flows with my personality like no other. As I stated on Instagram, I actually have one more of these pretty pieces which (someday) will be posted for sale. More details about the piece will come then.

Black and white is still a hot color combo for the season and pretty easy to put together. You can’t really screw up black and white ya know? I had been saving this peplum, houndstooth skirt for the perfect occasion, and it went great with this outfit. Garter tights are super trendy right now and hot hot hot, I suggest getting a pair NOW if you like the style. Just make sure to stay away from drunk Argentinian broads at bars who are likely to accidently burn a hole in your fabulous new stockings with their cigarette butts. (UGH!)

As usual I feel that every outfit is made by the accessories, so I had to pile them on. I like to sparkle so much when I enter a room, that people need sunglasses to look at me. 😉

Glitter, rhinestones, sequins, diamonds…. I love em all.

I loved this entire look (which I styled in about 25 minutes). The makeup, hair, clothes, shoes, and even nails worked together to create a visual symphony of a chic black and white ensemble that received quite a bit of positive attention out on the town. Ahhhhh, I love dress up.

Details on outfits often include where I found the item and its cost, because I think one of my specialties is dressing well on a low to middle income budget and still looking like a million bucks. It’s all about hunting for treasures and scoping out affordable places to shop such as sample sales, flea markets, thrift stores, etc. Spend less on clothes, and invest on shoes or accessories!

Fascinator: Rebecca Glam  (made by me)

Belt: TJ Maxx (for $6)

Garter tights: eBay (about $12)

Bag: Betsey Johnson (sample sale score for $20, bag retails around $200)

Shoes: Prickly, by Jeffrey Campbell (the only item I’m wearing that was expensive at $230, however you can find these shoes on sale currently for half the cost.)

All Black Everything.

Ahhh the color black. What a deep, mysterious, and sumptuous shade. Anyone and everyone looks good in black and it goes with practically anything. Head to toe black can range from elegant gothic, to New York chic, to glam noir and most definitely edgy and fierce. <3 All black everything.

This look is definitely hitting on that edgy, fierce look that I love! My only suggestion about doing head to toe black is to utilize different textures and black on black prints to make the outfit pop.

I love that the top has this back detailing. Often times those trendy, billowy, shapeless tops make girls look bigger than they are because they don’t shape to their figure. These little buttons on the back, pull the top tighter around the waist and create more of a flattering shape. Why don’t all those billowy tops have this detail? I demand more!

These awesome, unique steampunk hair picks were sent to me courtesy of Antickquities, an Etsy shop that specializes in accessories made from clock hands. Her designs are so unique and very affordable! I have a few different styles of her wearable art, and I love them all!

And as many of you already know, thigh highs are waaayyyy trending right now! Not just thigh highs, but thigh highs over other stockings, or garter thigh highs. I recently ordered some really cute ones off eBay, just waiting for them in the mail! Upper thigh is the new upper arm. Ha!
