Simple, easy, style.

This look was as easy as taking two basic pieces; a black tank top and leggings, and then adding in color with accessories. I like to have better quality basics, and then statement pieces are fun to find second hand by thrifting, checking out consignment stores and one of my favorite shopping destinations Crossroads Trading Company.simplestyle

Uniform Freedom

Yes, I am the weirdo in the bathroom that when you walk in, I’m standing in front of the mirror taking outfit selfies. Of course once you burst in, I quickly lower my phone and turn my body to pretend I wasn’t just taking 20 pictures of myself. LOL! We’ve all been there. We’ve either been that person, or we’ve seen that person.

I take a photo of my outfit every day at work, so here I am being that girl.

…and there you have it. My work uniform is whatever my little fashionista heart desires. I hope to make this a regular installment on my blog, featuring five outfits from recent days. What is your favorite outfit?

Goth is Dead!

Ugh, when will all these goth kids GET IT?! Goth is DEAD! 😉 Just like punk is dead, emo is dead, disco is dead, skater is dead, Lolita is dead, and blah blah blah. But guess what…? I dress how I want!

What’s that? I’m invited to Bat’s Day at Disneyland? Well of course I’d love to go! Any excuse to play dress up! I wanted to explore the newest form of Gothic styling known as “pastel Goth” which basically includes all the lovely shades of black and rich textures; but features touches of soft pastel colors. All the cool kids seem to be doing it, so I wanted to be cool too.

Iridescent, pastel and holographic handbag is by Nine West. This purse is EVERYTHING!

A day filled with laughs, waiting in lines, giggling, photo taking, booze, more laughing and aching legs due to wearing brand new leather platforms to a giant amusement park. Although I don’t label myself as Gothic (or ever claimed to be “Goth”) I do adore Gothic fashion. Bat’s Day is a spectacular day to see all forms of Gothic styling from classy, really high end Victorian gowns to Hot Topic punk kids. Of course there is still a presence of mainstream public, so Bat’s Day is quite the interesting spectacle for those unaware of this special gathering.

Not-So-Mellow Yellow.

Having a gloomy day? Why not brighten it up with a splash of yellow?! It’s an uplifting, and bold color that makes the wearer feel bright, cheery, and energetic! Every guy and gal deserves a little yellow in their closet.

I was recently scouring the clearance racks at everyone’s favorite superstore– Target! I was lucky enough to come across this simple, color blocked yellow skirt, on clearance for $8! I couldn’t pass it up! The material is lovely and the skirt is as comfortable as skirts get!

On  this day I was headed to a fashionable friend’s party, so I had to make sure my outfit was on point. After two hours of mixing, matching, and complete outfit changes, I arrived at this perfect combination of color and print.

… and let’s not forget to accessorize!

Holy Holographic!

The last time I was into holograms and holographic material I was a young kid in the 90’s. I collected pogs and stickers. Pogs and stickers were cool, but when you got HOLOGRAPHIC pogs or stickers, it was like an entirely new level of extreme awesomeness.

Well holographic material is cooler than its ever been, coming in new forms far superior to pogs and stickers. Lately it’s been on bags, shoes, cell phone cases, even nail polish! And you know what? It looks damn cool in every shape and form.

This is definitely one of the few trends from the 90’s that I’m loving a re-run of. Holographic material pairs well with almost any color and it totally adds a fun, psychedelic, and futuristic element to an outfit.

A while back I stopped in at one of my favorite places to treasure hunt… Ross. I usually find a lot of good stuff at Ross and every now and then I find an absolute TREASURE. This was one of those days. As I combed through their sloppy aisles of handbags haphazardly hanging here, there and piled onto the floor, something caught my eye. Way in the back of about 20 small handbags all on one arm, a certain purse gleamed.

In an overly excited rush I managed to detangle it from the plethora of purses in an instant. A small hand bag by Nine West… in the most beautiful iridescent holographic material. It was love at first sight.

I couldn’t believe I found such a gorgeous, trendy bag. I always do my research because I like to know how much I saved, and I found this bag retails for around 40-50 dollars. I scored this beauty for $15!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! It was meant to be. An absolute treasure.

Th good news is that I’m sure this trend will carry all the way through summer if not the whole year. So if you haven’t jumped on the hologram train yet, there’s still plenty of time. Last I checked Urban Outfitters had a whole load of holographic items and I think Forever 21 has a few pairs of holographic shoes. When in doubt, search the internets for exactly what you want.

Happy treasure hunting!

Do What You Love.

Bindi: a decorative element worn on the forehead; traditionally worn in Southeast Asia for a number of reasons including religion, marital status and for fashion.

I remember a time when I was in 9th grade and I walked into class wearing a bindi. My sassy, sarcastic, gothic English teacher pointed me out to the class and said in the driest of tones, “What is that a bug on your forehead?” Of course the whole class laughed and she just sat back looking all smug because she had just “punked” one of her “stupid little freshmen.”

As a noob to high school and standing up for myself, I just let it happen. I probably dished out some major eye rolling but I can’t recall having a good comeback. No worries though, I was lucky enough to have the same teacher again for my senior year, and by this time I was a confident, sassy and clever girl and I sure did give her hell (along with many other teachers.)

I may have been “punked” then, but it never stopped me from enjoying something I loved. Some people just don’t understand.

A Spot of Tea, Gov’na?

And by tea… I mean pure, hard liquor. 😉

Let me start by saying this outfit was created around the shoes. My new Jeffrey Campbells. I’ve been creating a lot of outfits lately with gold accessories, and yet I didn’t have the shoes to match, so I’ve been on the hunt for some edgy Jeff Campbells with gold hardware instead of silver. As you may or may not know… JC shoes are rather expensive and these particular shoes I’ve had my eyes on for a while and were originally almost $300. Yikes!!! I checked online a few days ago and what do you know… they are on sale for $185. They were practically screaming at me to buy them. And I was going to buy them, oh yes…. I was going to buy them! Just before I clicked the “commit to buy” button, a thought popped into my head.

Check Craigslist.

First of all, I am a HUGE fan of Craigslist. Craigslist has brought me SO much good in my life and zero bad. Many people are hesitant to use the site because some idiot murderer had to go ruin it for all of us CL fans. I personally have used the site well over 100 times to buy, sell, meet and greet.

So on this merry day, I searched “Jeffrey Campbell shoes” on Craigslist in the Los Angeles area. What do you know… a girl is selling the EXACT shoes I want, in MY size…. AND!!!!!! She lives in Long Beach. It was truly meant to be. She sold me these babies BRAND NEW, still wrapped in the box for $120!!!!! Whaaaaaat?!?!?!? I KNOW! Thank YOU Craigslist!!! Here they are, in all their shiny, metallic, spiked glory:

You’re probably thinking either of two thoughts:

a) WOW! Those are crazy or b) Doesn’t she already have shoes like that?

Yes and yes. They are pretty wild… and sharp, and I do have similar style JC shoes… however the ultimate difference is the gold hardware. One of my fashion rules (and many other fashionistas) is that you simply cannot mix metals. You can’t have a bunch of silver jewelery on, with gold heels. Or vice versa. Pick a metal, and stick to it. Hence why I wanted to add some gold hardware shoes to my wardrobe. You get it.

The blazer is from Ross, $20. The bag is by Big Buddha which I scored for wholesale cost ($36) since I interned for the company. The Union Jack tank I’m wearing is by Forever 21, however I found it at a tiny little sample/factory sale store in downtown LA and paid $5 for it. The lovely little gold circle pins on my blazer are all vintage pieces that I picked up at a flea market in San Francisco.

Meeting with the Gov’na to grab a spot of “tea” at my local piano bar. 😉

I dedicate this post to Craig.
