Wardrobe Favorites

You may have seen this jacket in other posts, as it happens to be my favorite piece in my wardrobe two years running now. It truly is the perfect L.A. jacket. Great construction, beautiful leather & suede, and a perfect fit. I want ┬áone in every color of the rainbow. Except orange… I definitely do not want one in orange. čśë

MyTribeLeatherJacketTMThe jeans are my first pair of Joe’s and I am pleasantly surprised. They have a great fit, along with the perfect length (hard to find when you’re a Shorty McShort Short) and again, I’ve worn them frequently and they hold there shape very well. No saggy knees, no stretched out booty.

And ahhhh those beautiful stiletto heels. Metallic in color and a unique cage style design. They are made by┬áL.A.M.B., Gwen Stefani’s fashion line. I scored these beauties at Nordstrom Rack for less than half the original price. Yesssss!

Glam Noir

A long time ago I found this gorgeous piece of wearable art on Etsy:

If you checked out the link, which takes you to the Etsy listing, you will see the jaw dropping price of almost $500. Wayyyy out my price range, but oh SO beautiful. I added the item to my favorites list and oohed and ahhed over it for years.

When it comes to shopping for unique pieces, my motto is “when in doubt… search eBay.” Some of my greatest finds have come from eBay, and always at a great price! Recently I was browsing eBay for an unrelated item, and stumbled across a beaded collar necklace that looked incredibly similar to the Etsy piece, and it was much more affordable, so I had a “treat yo self” moment.

My friend Sam and I got together to shoot the piece. I created the look, and she took the photos at her studio. My hair didn’t come out quite the way I hoped, but what can you do… once a half can of hairspray is in the hair… you’re not gonna make it look any other way.

Generally I don’t like┬áto fit any particular mold of one specific style, and tend to draw creativity from multiple genres of fashion. My inspirations for this look pull from goth and glamour, basically what I like to call “glam noir.”

A big thanks to Sam for letting me test out her amazing photography and editing skills. You can see more of Sam’s work on her FB fanpage here.

We took a TON of photos, however I don’t have the mad editing skills Sam has, and so she was kind enough to send me these images for use. This last one is my favorite.

Pin Up Style, Baby!

Remember I went to a pinup shoot a while back? (In case you missed it, you can read about it HERE.) I helped style some of the girls, and I got a few sessions of my own in. Of the four different looks we shot, I’ve received the sets from two of the photographers that day. They came out so great and I am one lucky girl getting to participate in the day’s festivities.

This set was shot by professional photographer, Isaac Suttell. Please see Isaac’s website for more of his phenomenal work!

Isaac’s photos came out absolutely stunning and I couldn’t be more honored to have had him shoot me. On a personal note, I’m not one for being tan, however this particular set of photos inspires me to get a little more sun this summer! Hehehee. Although I must say, Isaac captured me as a porcelain doll. Thank you Isaac!

Black and White, an Outfit for the Night.

The entire outfit was assembled around the headpiece, which I can proudly say I MADE!! Sparkly, sharp and extremely beautiful; it’s an accessory that flows with my personality like no other. As I stated on Instagram, I actually have one more of these pretty pieces which (someday) will be posted for sale. More details about the piece will come then.

Black and white is still a hot color combo for the season and pretty easy to put together. You can’t really screw up black and white ya know? I had been saving this peplum, houndstooth skirt for the perfect occasion, and it went great with this outfit. Garter tights are super trendy right now and hot hot hot, I suggest getting a pair NOW if you like the style. Just make sure to stay away from drunk Argentinian broads at bars who are likely to accidently burn a hole in your fabulous new stockings with their cigarette butts. (UGH!)

As usual I feel that every outfit is made by the accessories, so I had to pile them on. I like to sparkle so much when I enter a room, that people need sunglasses to look at me. čśë

Glitter, rhinestones, sequins, diamonds…. I love em all.

I loved this entire look (which I styled in about 25 minutes). The makeup, hair, clothes, shoes, and even nails worked together to create a visual symphony of a chic black and white ensemble that received quite a bit of positive attention out on the town. Ahhhhh, I love dress up.

Details on outfits often include where I found the item and its cost, because I think one of my specialties is dressing well on a low to middle income budget and still looking like a million bucks. It’s all about hunting for treasures and scoping out affordable places to shop such as sample sales, flea markets, thrift stores, etc. Spend less on clothes, and invest on shoes or accessories!

Wearing:

Fascinator: Rebecca Glam  (made by me)

Shirt: Velvet Heart (Found at a sample sale $10)

Skirt: Sensational Collection (found at Ross for $8)

Belt: TJ Maxx (for $6)

Garter tights: eBay (about $12)

Bag: Betsey Johnson (sample sale score for $20, bag retails around $200)

Shoes: Prickly, by Jeffrey Campbell (the only item I’m wearing that was expensive at $230, however you can find these shoes on sale currently for half the cost.)

All Black Everything.

Ahhh the color black. What a deep, mysterious, and sumptuous shade. Anyone and everyone looks good in black and it goes with practically anything. Head to toe black can range from elegant gothic, to New York chic, to glam noir and most definitely edgy and fierce. <3 All black everything.

This look is definitely hitting on that edgy, fierce look that I love! My only suggestion about doing head to toe black is to utilize different textures and black on black prints to make the outfit pop.

I love that the top has this back detailing. Often times those trendy, billowy, shapeless tops make girls look bigger than they are because they don’t shape to their figure. These little buttons on the back, pull the top tighter around the waist and create more of a flattering shape. Why don’t all those billowy tops have this detail? I demand more!

These awesome, unique steampunk hair picks were sent to me courtesy of Antickquities, an Etsy shop that specializes in accessories made from clock hands. Her designs are so unique and very affordable! I have a few different styles of her wearable art, and I love them all!

And as many of you already know, thigh highs are waaayyyy trending right now! Not just thigh highs, but thigh highs over other stockings, or garter thigh highs. I recently ordered some really cute ones off eBay, just waiting for them in the mail! Upper thigh is the new upper arm. Ha!

Bag: Big Buddha

Top: Nasty Gal (bought on sale)

Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell Stinger (also bought on sale!)

Off to the Theatre! (again)

The Book of Mormon recently played for a few months in Hollywood at the Pantages Theatre. I had heard so many good things about it, and saw that it was nominated for quite a few awards so I definitely had to see it.

For my girlfriend’s birthday, I scored us hot tickets to the show with fantastic seats! For my outfit, I ended up creating a look that mixed a classic vintage look, with some edge. If I could go back, I would have dropped the edge, and just kept it classy glam but what can you do, this is my look for the night:

One of my favrite beauty looks is platinum hair, dark eyebrows and red lips. I melt any time I see it, and love to pull it off myself. I know I know, a lot of people can’t stand dark eyebrows with light hair… but you know what I can’t stand? Bleached eyebrows!!!! What the heck is that?!

Where are her eyebrows?!??! Oh yeah!!! She BLEACHED them!!!

Moving on…

This gorgeous dress I scored at a sample sale in downtown LA for a mere 10 bucks. This dress retails for 90 dollars! The shoes are my fabulous Prickly’s by Jeffrey Campbell and of course my clutch is Big Buddha.

Loving the sleeve detail, and how the edges turn slightly upward.

After a lovely dinner at a nearby restaurant, we headed over to the gorgeous Pantages Theatre for the night’s show. Needless to say, the musical was fantastic and quite impressive with the actors, songs, and visual presentation. I especially loved the seemingly authentic African tribal costume and chant done in the “airport scene” towards the beginning.

Overall it was a fantastic show and the even the audience was great. My girlfriend and I had an amazing time and playing dress up beforehand was almost as fun as the musical itself.
