Something To Celebrate!

Hello lovelies, guess what? Today marks the one year anniversary of launching my blog!! Wowie wow wow, a whole year dedicating so much time, effort and patience to this online documentary of my personal style endeavors!

Check out my first month of blogging here in the April 2012 archive. (The very first entry is at the bottom.)

Even in just one year’s time my blog has evolved so much. I’m sure many of you recall the plethora of different layouts and color schemes I’ve used over the year. Of course the biggest change of all, was changing my blog’s title and domain address. Yes it’s true for my new readers, Rebecca Glam is formerly known as “It’s Called Style, Baby.” Some of my old photos have my old domain watermarked onto them. I changed my blog title to something more simplistic and memorable last fall. What a PAIN that was! If you ever decide to start a blog, make sure you are going to love the name/domain for the long haul, because it is not fun or easy to switch once you’ve established something.

Now that I’m all settled in with my blog, I’m still on the hunt for the perfect header for my site. A graphic that is crisp, clean, unique and glamorous. Not sure if I’ll ever get it, but maybe someday. I hope to continue on with my blog, and progressively get better at it with time. I knew nothing about blogging or having my own site when I started this journey last year… and frankly I still don’t! Hahaha. Okay okay so I’ve learned a lot, but of course there’s always room to grow.

Here’s a lovely little anniversary photo compilation of the past year’s style and blog posts.

Since a year ago today, my blog has received over 30,000 hits!!!

I’d like to thank everyone who pushed, supported, shared, advised, liked and read my blog over the year. Special thanks to those that have shared my blog on their Facebook feeds, told their friends about it, commented, and who really interacted with my blog. Seriously, even the littlest comment means a lot to me. Without people being interested, I wouldn’t have motivation to continue on. So THANK YOU ALL SO SOOOO MUCH! You’ll never know just how much I appreciate all of your support. <3

Much love,

Rebecca

Wedding Guest Glamour!

What better place to GLAM IT UP than a wedding?! Not all of us get to float over red carpets or enjoy the races, so why not get dolled to the nines for a wedding?

I was recently lucky enough to acquire an insanely gorgeous Arturo Rios masterpiece of a hat.

My new art piece to add to my collection.

Arturo Rios is a Los Angeles based couture hat designer, specializing in avant garde fascinators and high fashion head wear. You can find these and many other styles on his Etsy shop (as well as specialty boutiques and his website.)

Naturally I had to wear this amazing hat to a December wedding I was to attend. I had the perfect little red dress to pair it with.

My shoes are the lovely Corleone’s by Jeffrey Campbell and my beaded clutch is from Big Buddha. Luckily I had my gorgeous vintage fox fur to drape over my shoulders, and my sweet little black hand gloves for the perfect touch. What I find amusing, is the dress I’m wearing was the least expensive item of everything I have on! I got this dress for $8 at a small overstock/ sample shop in downtown LA’s garment district.

This look is certainly not for the shy personality, but it was a lot of fun to pull off and I felt like a glamorous princess all day! The wedding was fabulous, and despite no heel on my shoe, I danced all night long! ;)

Color Pop!

Creating a black and white outfit calls for a pop of color somewhere…. what better accessory than a cute, bright red wig?

Blue contrasts with red really well, so I added just a tad of blue eyeshadow under my eye for a lovely little detail. Again this outfit was relatively inexpensive.

Sweater dress: Say What? (from Kohls!)

Scarf: Hot Topic

Skirt, Boots and Hat: Ross

Bag and Sunglasses: Big Buddha

Life in platinum.

I don’t know about all those other blondes, brunettes and redheads…. but I do know that life in platinum is WAY more fun!

Make it up with make up.

Feeling a little tribal on this night. I often build a look around a set of colors, an accessory or a single article of clothing. On this night my green, purple, black and white feather earrings that I bought from Beth Nouveau on Etsy took over my look.

Using green, purple, and a shimmery tan I painted my lids. The tribal dots are simply done with eyeliner and a steady hand. If anyone knows of a better make up for tribal paint jobs, please do share. After the shadows were on, I used loose purple glitter to go over the purple shadow for some sparkle! To apply loose glitter I’ve found this amazing product by Hard Candy, which you can find at Walmart:

Best glitter glue, EVER. Just make sure you’re using glitter specially made to be worn as make up, and not craft glitter! I love glitter and this product makes it soooo easy to wear.

This make up look is fun, different and definitely stands out in a crowd. And if anyone looks at you and says “why?” Well then you say, “It’s called STYLE, baby.”

Thank YOU for reading. <3

Bright eyes.

A collection of eye make-up designs that’ll make you say WOW!

Glam, on the job.

I like to glam it up most every day, and for me, work is no excuse. I bartend and serve at a well-known dining establishment and I like to look my best while working. Often times when I go into work with great hair and make-up, it makes me feel good and I gain more confidence. It makes the day better!

When getting ready for work I usually give myself some sort of theme, or color scheme to follow. Here are a few of my looks for work:

Black and Red w/ some edge.

Low side ponytail with black and red flowers. I took a single earring with black and red feathers and clipped into my ponytail for added flair. Red lips to top it all off. As you will note, I am huge fan of red lips.

Native American Neutrals

Clearly I had sort of a Native American theme going this day. I kept my make-up in neutral tones and wore a braided headband with neutral colored feathers at the ends of it. A mini pompadour in the front of my hair and a whole lot of teasing at the crown, and then tied off in a ponytail. I also wore only one long, feathered earring on the left ear. I find that sometimes when you have big, long or bold earrings it looks nice and/or unique to only wear one.

Green, yellow and white!

The twisties in my hair were done by my hairdresser, Vero. My eye make-up is a baked green shadow from Hot Topic. I love baked shadows because they are super bright and pigmented when applying them wet. Yellow and white flowers pinned into a messy bun. Gold and yellow jewelry to top it off.

Terrific in Turquoise:

Another low, side ponytail with teased hair at the crown. I swirled up half of my bangs and let the other parts of my bangs just fall to the side. I will eventually attempt a “how to” video for hair swirls. Teal flower in the hair, teal and silver earrings and turquoise eye shadow for the whole look.

I will have more posts like this, considering I always create new looks and themes for work. I know most people think, “It’s just work. I’m not going to waste my time getting all done up…” The way I see it is, no matter where you are, you’re still be seeing seen by lots of people. People tend to dress up because it makes them feel good, so why not try to feel good at work too? Contrary to belief, I do not spend hours upon hours getting ready. Through years of hair and makeup I’ve gotten pretty fast at my art.

If anything, always wear a flower in your hair! It’s cheap, easy and looks like a million! Plus, for those of you in tipped positions, one study shows waitresses increased their tips by 17 percent by wearing flowers in their hair.

In general it pays to look distinctive.
