My Favorite Holiday, NYE!

Hands down, New Year’s Eve is my favorite holiday of them all. The last 5 years I have been lucky enough to have outrageous, awesome, incredible, and fun New Year’s Eve celebrations. What better day in the whole year to wipe away any hard times from the previous months and to be hopeful and optimistic about the next yearly chapter?

My favorite holiday paired with my favorite hobby naturally calls for an outstanding outfit. I’m blessed to have many friends that love dressing up as much as I do, and I get the opportunity to attend themed parties. Themed parties seriously are THE BEST. Sure, regular parties are cool and all…. but slap on a theme, and the party sky rockets to a whole new level of awesomeness.

This year’s NYE party was themed: White Russian. The theme can go many different ways, however I made it simple and kept it Russian and the color white.

My cat Mikah is my assistant creative director when it comes to outfit planning.

The one sewing class I took in high school taught me how to sew a pillow and an apron. Naturally, these days I can’t even set up a sewing machine, let alone use it. On top of that, I don’t even have a sewing machine! Sewing would be an amazing skill to have (especially for someone who loves fashion) but for now I have to stick to hand stitching with just a needle and thread.

I headed to the Garment district in downtown LA and purchased one yard of this pretty white faux fur fabric for $14. With this one yard, I was able to create my Russian fur hat, my furry boot cover/leg warmers and even made some arm cuffs out of the fur as well. Considering the quickly applied hand stitch to bring it all together, I thought surely the articles of fur would be in pieces by the end of the night, but surprisingly, it all stayed together.

My skirt and top are from (take a wild guess…) ROSS!!! When I paired them together, they sort of blended to look like a ruffly dress. I actually had all the pieces of my outfit already in my wardrobe except for the furry pieces, so it was awesome that I only ended up spending $14 for the whole outfit.

I opted for a firey red wig instead of my platinum blonde for some nice contrast against the white. Plus, I’m sure there are a lot of hot Russian red heads out there. ;)

The outfit was a success and the party was amazing.

Here are a few shots from a photobooth set up at the party:

Pink, Re-Styled.

A new day calls for a new outfit! I wanted to wear the same colors from the outfit that I wore to the Pink Party (which you can see HERE).  The events were related, so  I wanted to utilize the same colors and skirt but in a whole new way. What I love about the skirt is the super flowy material, and it is short in the front, and long in the back (very popular right now!) For the previous outfit, I wore the skirt as it should be worn, but for this outfit, I simply pulled the skirt up over my chest, and wore it as a strapless shirt/dress. By putting a belt on over it, it cinched it enough to flatter my shape. Obviously it was very short in the front, so I put on a simple short black mini skirt, and added some wicked stockings to create a whole new look out of the same basic pieces.

Remember, this skirt is from Ross and was 10 bucks! The belt I got from TJ Maxx for 5.99 and the stockings are from Wet Seal for another 8 bucks. I got the stockings a few years and they are gorgeous! I haven’t been able to find them again so I handle these with great care so I don’t rip them up.

Now my favorite part, the accessories!

This picture looks better when you click on it, so you can see detail.

Okay so that amazing ring that looks like spikes coming out of my finger… yes, that ring is AWESOME! I found it online for 4 dollars!!! It’s one of my coolest rings, and it was soooo inexpensive! The spiked bracelet is from Forever 21 and the slave bracelet is from the Icing. My amazing chain purse I found at Ross (where I find most ALL of my amazing articles of fashion!) and it was a mere 20 bucks. The necklace I found recently at an accessory store in downtown LA and it was also 20 bucks.

My make-up was kept simple, although I did hand glue (eyelash glue!) 15 pink Swarovski crystals around my eyebrows and added a little glitter to my eyeliner. As for my hair, I inserted pink, black and white flowers and a black feather fascinator.

Again, my ensemble was an absolute hit at the event (LB Pride 2012). If it wasn’t my hair, it was my shoes people were in astonishment with. Many people asked to take a photo with me (including profesh photogs), which of course, was awesome. I remember times in the past where I attended different kinds of public events where there would be some gorgeous female all decked out in some elaborate fashion and I always wanted to be her… and after this day… I think I can say I made it. If you want to be “her” you can’t half ass it. You go big or you go home, and I’ve learned this over the years. And it always comes down to details. Clothes can only get you so far… but the details… those are what seal the deal.

Think Pink!

A promoter came into my job, handed me a poster and walked out. Normally I wouldn’t give these posters more than a quick glance, however the title of party was worthy of reading:

“5th Annual Pink Party” hosted in Downtown Long Beach to kick off Pride weekend here in Long Beach. A pink party you say? A THEMED party you say? Any time there is a theme associated with a party, the wheels in my head began turning overtime. Withing moments of checking out this poster I had formulated ideas of my outfit in my head. I’ve had this gorgeous pink skirt from Ross ($9.99) that’s been hanging in my closet and I have yet to wear it. I just haven’t had the perfect outfit or opportunity to rock it. I knew it would be the key ingredient to my outfit.

Fast forward to Friday, and after a few hours of putting some work into my ensemble I got to put it all together for the win.

I’ve been wanting to make my own feather epaulette’s and this was the perfect occasion being that I had the hot pink feathers already. I added silver chains draping down from each piece and added pins to the them so that I may attach them to a jacket. They came out gorgeous!

My hair came out awesome, thanks to help of my hairdresser, Vero. This is the style I have come to refer to as “the usual,” when we style it. We’ve repeated “the usual” many times in the past. What can I say, it looks soooo cool!

My style often focuses on details. It’s the little things ya know? The accessories! One of my favorite parts of fashion! Rings, necklaces, earrings oh my! You can never have enough! Not in this blog anyway!

All in all, the outfit came together just as I imagined it days before. I set out on the town and the ensemble was an absolute hit. I was asked by many photographers for a photo and the shoes were especially popular with the crowd, including an older Asian man who got down on the ground to take a picture posed next to them.

It feels amazing to dress up!

Spring is in the air.

A few weeks ago I was invited to a “Floral Frock, Loud Shirt, Long Lunch.” It was an amazing backyard party in Venice. Champagne flowing like Niagra Falls and good people all around. Of course I take advantage of any themed party and aim for 110%.

The “floral frock” I am wearing is a dress I bought from Ross, probably 4 years ago. I’m sure it wasn’t more than 10 dollars. I just can’t get rid of it!  I don’t wear it often, but I break it out for spring time outdoor events because it’s just so perfect. It’s a great quality dress with sky blue trim around the bottom of the dress to offset the green, yellow and white in the rest of the dress.

All hair, make-up and accessories usually go with the color scheme, so I used multiple colored flowers in my hair, in addition to pin-curls. Ladies, may I always recommend a flower in your hair! Yellow, green and blue blended eye make-up with heavy cat eye liner.

The perfect accessory is of course, the champagne with raspberries.
